On January 6th, the worlds first 200kV high-voltage DC circuit breaker independently developed by State Grid Intelligent Grid Research Institute completed its type test at the "Power System Power Electronics Laboratory" of the Beijing Key Laboratory, marking a major breakthrough in the research and development of core equipment for DC transmission in China and clearing obstacles for the construction of DC transmission and DC power grid in China.
Multi terminal DC transmission and DC grid technology based on flexible DC is one of the effective technical means to solve the problems of new energy grid integration and consumption. High voltage DC circuit breakers are key equipment for constructing DC grids, which play an extremely important role in the safe and reliable operation of DC transmission systems and DC grids. However, under high voltage and high current conditions, how to solve the problem of DC current having no natural zero crossing point and being difficult to disconnect, as well as the problem of DC short-circuit current rising rapidly and requiring it to be difficult to disconnect within milliseconds, has been a century old challenge in the field of power technology, which has plagued the academic and engineering communities both domestically and internationally.
It is reported that the State Grid Intelligent Grid Research Institute will make every effort to promote the engineering technology research of high-voltage DC circuit breakers, complete the engineering demonstration application of 200kV high-voltage DC circuit breakers, and lay the foundation for the interconnection of Chinas DC transmission network, efficient transmission and utilization of renewable energy, as well as the integration and optimization of power resources between different regions.
